American Government

Course Description:

The course is one year long for seniors and involves the following units:

  • Foundations of American Government
  • Origins of American Government
  • The Constitution
  • Federalism
  • The Legislative Branch
  • The Executive Branch
  • The Judicial Branch
  • Taxing and Spending (includes a unit on basic economic concepts as well as personal finance)
  • Domestic Policy
  • Foreign Policy
  • State Government
  • Local Government

Course Requirements:

  • Things to bring everyday to class:

    • your laptop computer (beginning in 2006-07)
    • paper to write on
    • writing utensil
    • textbook
    • extra work or book to read (in case classwork is done)
  • Late-work may be accepted, but will only be given 1/2 credit.  To receive the possible full-credit, work must be turned in at the beginning of the class period or when the instructor asks for it.

United States Government:  Democracy In Action; Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, 2003

Grading:

Grades are determined by the total points earned in the class and the grade received is based on the straight ten point system.

  • All work must be turned in at the beginning of class.  Students will receive no credit if the assignment is turned in late.
  • Just a reminder...when a student is absent due to sickness or emergency, all work must be made up upon their return.  They are given the total number of days that they were absent.
