United States History

Course Description:

United States History is a required course for juniors.  The course examines the time period from the mid-1800s to the present.  Attention is paid to the following units:

  • Westward Expansion (including Alaskan Native issues -- ANCSA, etc.)
  • Civil War
  • Big Business/Immigration
  • Imperialism (1880-1910)
  • World War I
  • The Depression
  • World War II
  • The Cold War
    • Korean War
    • Vietnam War
  • Post Cold War Era
    • Gulf War
    • War on Terrorism

Course Requirements:

  • Things to bring everyday to class:
    • laptop computer (beginning in 2006-07)
    • paper to write on
    • writing utensil
    • textbook
    • extra work or book to read (in case classwork is done)
  • Late-work will be accepted, but will only be given 1/2 credit.  To receive the possible full-credit, work must be turned in at the beginning of the class period

Textbook:

American History:  The Modern Era Since 1865; Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, 2001

Grading:

Grades are determined by the total points earned in the class and the grade received is based on the straight ten point system.

  • All work must be turned in at the beginning of class.  Students will receive no credit if the assignment is turned in late.
  • Just a reminder...when a student is absent due to sickness or emergency, all work must be made up upon their return.  They are given the total number of days that they were absent.
